This makes picking the fruit rather fiddly, as you have to be careful not to damage the unripe berries, but the advantage is that the crop seems to go on forever. I’ve been picking blueberries for six weeks now and unfortunately we’re near to the end of the crop now. The picture shows what I’ve picked today – I’ve added a few of the very first Japanese wineberries of the season, which give a welcome sweetness to the tart blue fruit.
