How to Create a Liberal America – Tim Worstall’s Kickstarter Project

“Look, I expect politicians to be stupid, but who is this Dan Poulter cunt?” asked Tim Worstall on his “It is all obvious or trivial except…” blog. To answer his question, Dan Poulter is a young and very good looking Conservative MP who attracted Tim Worstall’s scorn because of some idiotic remarks he made about smoking.
I looked the unfortunate chap up on Wikipedia and was impressed to find that he “has a passion for the Mangalitza breed of pig”.  “Aha, he can’t be all that bad”, I thought, “He may be stupid, but he’s bound to have a heart of gold, like Lord Emsworth”. But it turns out, as Hansard reveals that he only recently encountered his first Mangalitza pig and his speech on the pig farming industry was such utter drivel that I think Tim Worstall got it right first time.

Sam Bowman described “It’s all obvious or trivial except…” as “probably the best blog in the UK blogosphere” and he put me on to a Kickstarter project which Tim Worstall has just embarked on. He wants to raise $30,000 to fund him to research and write a book about the Scandinavian economies, as he outlines in this video. I’ve written before about Kickstarter and I love the idea. As he says, it’s impossible nowadays to get an advance from a publisher unless you are writing the “celebrity diets that give you an orgasm” type of book. I’ve subscribed, and I wish Tim as much success as Amanda Palmer.

    About Slow Life

The idea of Slow Life is to take the principles of Slow Food, which are “good, clean and fair”, and extend them to life in general.

Here in the Lake District, the air is clean, the pace is slow and the atmosphere is calm. If we don’t grow food ourselves, we can buy it in friendly small shops, where you know the quality is going to be the best.

This blog is a celebration of the Slow Life, with forays into the world of design, music, the arts, gardens, and my particular weakness, Japan.
