For such a tiny presence they’ve made a massive impact. They remind me very much of the protesters who, during my student days, used to go about clutching Mao’s “Little Red Book”. The irony is that several of these students ended up in Blair’s cabinet consolidating the Thatcher revolution. There’s a second irony in that while they were quoting from the “Little Red Book” the great man himself was busy exterminating 45 million of his people and that his country has only become prosperous after free markets were introduced. Somehow, I don’t think the slogan “Compost Capitalism” would go down well now in Mao’s old country.
