Both were still going strong in February, when these photos were taken. In the greenhouse, the peach and apricot trees came into blossom, and the aloes produced their startling orange flower spikes. The forcing pots on the Timperley early rhubarb produced bright pink stems of what is marketed in the supermarkets as “Champagne Rhubarb”, a misnomer if ever there was one, as these stems are much sweeter than what follows. And then, after the mildest of winters, the first clematis came into flower, the Armandii, and the early blooms of the rhododendrons. This, combined with some lovely views over the bay, was enough for a small, tentative, album of photos.
