“I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put into tune once more”
John Burroughs – American Naturalist (1837-1921)
I came across the John Burroughs quotation on the SOW website (http://saveourwoods.co.uk/) after receiving a phonecall from one of their people in France, who had rung to ask if I would give my permission for them to use the photo I had taken of the Brockhole Monkey Puzzle tree, as they wished to support our campaign to save the tree. This is one of the great joys of the Slow Life blog. We’ve just had our third anniversary and after 605 postings and more than 150,000 words, it does well on Google, so that I often hear from like minded people such as the guy from SOW.
I looked back to see what we were up to three years ago and saw that the first ever posting on Slow Life was a video of one of my sows with her multi-coloured litter. The story was that our sows had given birth to 58 piglets in 48 hours. Six months later, we broke that record with 62 piglets. Those pigs had happy, fulfilled lives, as this photo shows.
