Grange already has the best butchers and the best bakers in Britain. We also have the best restaurant in Britain, now that L’Enclume, in our neighbouring village of Cartmel, has equalled the Fat Duck’s score of 10 out of 10 in the Good Food Guide. So it seems something of a miracle that there’s now another simply wonderful place to go to – Choco-lori, on Main St.
Choco-lori is run by a mother and daughter team, Anne and Louise Rigby, who began 5 years ago selling their home made chocolates at farmers’ markets in Cumbria and Lancashire. Trade was so good that they decided to take the plunge and set up in a permanent location, and we’re so lucky that they chose Grange. Especially so, as Grange already has a specialist shop selling chocolates, called, naturally enough, The Chocolate Shop. Anne and Louise make all their chocolates on the premises, in full view of the counter. I’m there every week – it’s a joy to watch them and an even bigger joy to eat what they’ve made.
